Religion tears apart Madonna, Britney
Madonna and Britney Spears are no longer on tongue-kissing terms, and it’s that old, sad story: Mama pop star spends oodles of time and money to bring baby pop star into a trendy celebrity religion, baby pop dabbles for a bit, possibly finds that learning the 72 names of God is 71 names too hard, then tragically cuts the red strings that bind.
The Web’s Music News says Madonna spiked their friendship after Spears recently announced, I no longer study Kabbalah, my baby is my religion.
According to the site, an annoyed Madonna pumped a lot of effort and cash into the Spears-assimilation project that began in 2003 and is now demanding that Spears return a 12th-century book on Kabbalah that Madonna gave her for a wedding present.
Us Weekly, meanwhile, says that despite Spears’ public embrace of infant faith Seanprestonism, she still has room in her heart for the religion of her youth. The magazine reports that Spears has hired a Christian life coach to help her with her troubled marriage to Kevin Federline and now uses her meditation room for prayer.
10 Hail Marys
Speaking of stars brought back from the brink of trendy celebrity religions: Catholics are celebrating the retrieval of Nicole Kidman’s soul from the forces of Tom Cruise.
The former Mrs. Cruise, who once experimented with the ex’s Scientology, is reportedly planning her wedding to country star Keith Urban in a Catholic ceremony
Father Paul Coleman, for one, couldn’t be more excited. The Jesuit, described as a longtime friend of the Kidman family who advised them on the annulment of Kidman’s marriage with Tom Cruise, tells the Catholic News Service: For Nicole, you know this is a spiritual homecoming, coming back to the church and her faith in her old parish.
Spider-Baby
In an unconfirmed report from Star magazine: Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and his fiancée, Jennifer Meyer, are expecting a baby. Which is great timing because Namibia just had an opening.
Nice to have a goal
Jack Black has son, international charities tragically unenriched:
I’m going to be the best daddy on the planet and I’m going to enter the best daddy competition. And I’m going to win it, Black says via Us Weekly.
The first child of Black and wife Tanya Haden was born Saturday, Black told Access Hollywood on Monday evening at the Mann Grauman’s Chinese Theatre première for his new movie, Nacho Libre.
The couple married in March.
There was no word on the infant’s name.
It’s just a pair of jeans
Publicists will do anything for a celebrity.
Case in point: Glenn Close, casing the swag Sunday at the Tony Awards in New York, was fingering a pair of jeans, but admitted, I haven’t shopped for jeans in, like, five years. I don’t know what size I am.
Per the New York Daily News, an obliging publicist bent over and looked down Close’s pants to find out.
You’re nuts! No, you’re nuts!
Today in the 100 Year Split, or Chapter 18 in Ireland Baldwin’s inevitable memoir, Raised by Bears and Other Childhood Fantasies:
A judge wants a psychologist to evaluate Alec Baldwin to determine whether he is fit to see his 10-year-old daughter more often as part of an ongoing custody battle with former wife Kim Basinger.
LA County Superior Court commissioner Maren E. Nelson said the question is whether the actor is attempting to turn the couple’s child against Basinger, USA Today reports.
In October, Basinger’s attorney said Baldwin suffered from severe emotional problems and that he had been accused of domestic violence in the past.
Baldwin countered in court documents that Basinger has a pathological need to turn their daughter against him. He also sought a psychological evaluation and parenting classes for Basinger.
The acting duo married in 1993. They separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002.

Putting Music First everywhere music on the menu (Times Leader)
The rain was falling pretty hard last Wednesday night when The Five Percent took the stage on Montage Mountain. The talented local band was performing on the Times Leader/Weekender Music First stage, just outside the entrance to the Toyota Pavilion, and as soon as I pulled into the parking lot, I could hear the groups crafty brand of melodic pop music echoing down the mountainside.
